I Don't Understand Blog Stealing

In more ways than one at that. I don't understand why one would do it, and I do not understand why it's a big deal. Unless you're a big time writer, hope to be, or are paid (either money of a significant amount of attention) to, then sure, I can see why you'd be upset.

Let's address the first part that I do understand and please, bear in mind that you may not agree with my logic, in the least bit. What's the purpose, or point in stealing someone else's words? Or, in some opinions, their "life" and claiming it as your own. Besides the fact that your life may be so boring and mundane that there is nothing to blog about, should you not question why you have a blog in the first place? Is it the fact that you need and or desire attention so badly, that you would go and steal another's post, just to, I don't know, if it's not to spite them then I suppose it would be to call some attention to yourself. However if this person isn't, popular, isn't famous, isn't a significant point person in Real Life, or Web Society, why do it? Perhaps it's another form of idolization, an annoying one, but they do say something like "imitation is the most sincere flattery." Right? I don't know, today isn't a quote day.

And how about you, the one getting upset. Why? Are you so special or clung to your words and life that it physically hurts to see it taken and stripped from you? Or are you more concerned about some person that takes these words and becomes "famous" with what you wrote instead of yourself? If that happened, would you ever think of becoming a Ghost Writer? Or how about a script writer for plays and movies? Surely the writers don't get famous and photographed in all the Tabloid magazines, the actors and actresses do, I have yet to see them complain. I do know about Ghost Writers for rappers that complain. I am straying from the topic, I simply don't understand. Again, if you are some pivotal member of society where your writing is comparable to the Bible, then sure, I'd be pretty pissed to. However, if it really is just another scribbling story of your mundane life that a few people happen to read and appreciate, I wouldn't bother being too upset about it. What are you holding on to? Words and memories so deeply imbedded into your subconscious, that the only time you'll remember them is when you re-read these blogs? Hell, you should be thankful there are so many people making copies for you if you want it that badly!

I dare someone with more "Xangafame" than myself, to copy this, word for word, credit it as there own and then have all of their friends and subscribers reccomend the shit out of it. Or any of my posts for that matter. I don't know, maybe it's because I'm not as attached to the past and old ramblings I've written eons ago, that I don't feel the need to be as vigilant in the stop of plagerism of "life." Ya'know?

Perhaps you do, perhaps you don't, I'm in Germany, chilling, trying to get the taste of currywurst out of my mouth. Perhaps my life isn't interesting enough to be duplicated and claimed as someone elses. Well one less thing for me to worry about yeah? I suppose I'll never understand.

Another thing I don't understand, "Xanga Cards" they're tacky, and ugly. Who made them? Why didn't you model it after a Yu-Gi-Oh Card or something? At least those have attack and defense points, and also effects or a nice place to describe the person better. Seriously, stop with the xanga cards, they suck. Hardcore Maximum.

A person used to copy my posts word for word. It didn't bother me. I just went by and left nice comments. A bunch of people attacked the person for it one day and the person shut down their site. I was sad that the person left over that.

Stewie does the xanga cards. I thought it was a cool idea.

I would be so happy if xanga cards had attack and defense points. That would just totally rock.

It's my blog and I'll put whatever pic I please on it, thank you. You're free not to look at it if the cards annoy you that much

The thing is, we do (some of us anyway) put a lot of effort, thought, and work into what we write here. It's not so much that we're losing anything, but the principle of taking someone's work. It's generally considered to be invasive, insulting, and wrong to plagiarism; and at the same time, it does make some feel, violated.

It also is like "Identity Theft" in a way. While it doesn't hurt someone's financial assets, having someone else assume your identity means that they can attribute just about anything to you; and with the right audience: do some social damage to your life.

This is why people get pissed about blog plagiarism.

No matter what: Plagiarism is wrong.

I don't see why anyone would steal blogs either, but I do think that I would be very irked if someone took mine without my permission and plagiarized. Just like you said, someone stealing my entries would steal my "opinions" and, to some extent, my "life".

Also, two things:

1. Ghost writers' main purpose is to write for others, so they probably don't mind having someone take credit for their work, and screen writers are always given their credits at the end of the film or show.

2. Ghost writers and screen writers get paid for their work. Someone stealing my work (and not giving me credit for words that sometimes come from deep thought) and not paying me is not cool at all.

'sall.

I had someone steal something I wrote and they got paid for it because it ended up in a national fashion magazine. Another time I told someone a story, which they stole and turned into a movie.

That shit sucks.

I had somebody steal something I'd written in real life, and they got it published. I had written it for an internal source. It did bother me, but I can't say why. I just felt really violated. On here, I can't imagine anybody stealing my boring blogs, but it might just bother me because it's kind of creepy ha ha. But you make some good points, and I'm trying hard not to let anything on Xanga bother me.

I kind of agree with you on the cards, no offense to anybody who's using them, but they aren't that attractive. But honestly to each his own, and Radical is right, I don't have to pay attention to it and definitely don't mind other people using them. I just won't.

I agree with the stealing posts thing, on both counts. I don't know if anyones stolen mine, I don't see whay they would. What's even weirder is when people "steal" ppls entire lives including their pictures and everything. People are strange and I just can't wrap my head around it.

I'm making the cards because people want them and ill take any reason to play with photoshop because I learn new things each time I use it. Like Radical said, if you don't like them, don't look at them =)

Hope you're enjoying Germany, be safe.

Lol, yep that would be me. Some other girl started them years ago but then had to stop. I got bored and decided to try and duplicate them. I just made them for me and maurice cause he had an original but then more ppl wanted them. I wouldn't know the first thing about putting atk and def on them as I've never even seen a yu gi oh card.

what is a xanga card?

and i don't understand stealing someones work...or someones identity. i have never written anything anyone would want to steal...but i have someone using my pictures and pretending they were theirs...both here and on myspace. they renamed my friends and wrote posts about the pictures as if they had another completely different experience of their own...it was creepy.

and if i did ever post anything that i wrote...my stories or my poems... i would be very upset if someone took them. writing is really personal to me.

The worst part is when someone accuses you of plagiarism for writing on the same topic with a couple similar points, but overall and entirely different point. Especially when you've never been to said person's blog before they blamed you for plagiarism. I'm just sayin'...
<-- maybe a little bitter.
